50 Pieces

Inspired by Andrew Bird's song "50 Pieces."

Gorgonopsid face

Generic gorgonopsid face with fur and whiskers.

Cintiq tablet in Photoshop.

Walrodont Beach

My finished Walrodont painting for the Xenopermian project. Background by

Baby Walrodonts

Part of the Xenopermian project drawn as a reference for one of the other artists on the team, Zach Miller of "When Pigs Fly Returns": [link]

Walrodont Sexual Dimorphism

An updated color reference sketch of the walrodont, with size comparison between male and female. The females tend to be slightly smaller with shorter tusks and lighter in color than their male counterparts.

Walrodont - Updated WIP

Two walrodont bulls bellow and battle for mating rights on a beach in the Xenopermian.

Detail work from a bigger digital painting I am working on for [link]

Cretaceous Critter Coffee Co.

A fictitious coffee company label inspired by Ray Troll's amazing art for Raven's Brew Coffee.

Tropeognathus skull study done in pen and ink, colored and typeset in Photoshop.

Nuthatch Speed Painting

Speed painting of a red-breasted nuthatch (2.5 hours).

Still not quite there...

Walrodont - WIP

Detail from a larger painting I am doing for Will Baird's Xenopermian project: the Walrodont - an aquatic synapsid descended from Lystrosaurus and other related dicynodonts.

See [link] here for more.

Europasaurus

A "speed painting" of Europasaurus holgeri, a dwarf brachiosaurid/titanisauriforme sauropod (there's some debate as to which "grouping" it belongs under) from the ancient European island archipelago of the late Jurassic.

This piece is on display for the month of October 2011 at the Midtown location of Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge in Anchorage, AK as part of the "Dinosaurs & Robots" art show with fellow artist Scott Elyard.

Walrodont

Another creature for Will Baird's "Xenopermian" project - the walrodont. This little guy is derived from the extremely weird proto-mammals, the dicynodonts, and is adapted to a watery lifestyle, like a walrus or sea lion.

This is a color sketch so I can familiarize myself with what was probably one of the most difficult animals I've ever drawn. Stay tuned for more!

Polar Bear

Rawr! I'm a bear!

Prancin' Pony Coloring Page

A coloring page I illustrated in 2009 for the Alaska Horse Journal's kid's section.

Snowy Owl

A mascot I worked on back in 2007 for the Willow Winter Carnival while I was employed at the Frontiersman newspaper. Not done in Illustrator, but Photoshop!

Psittacosaurus sibiricus

A Russian psittacosaurus species found in northern Siberia, that has the distinction of being the largest of the psittacosaurs found to date, and also the one with the most headgear. This little guy sported at least three pair of major facial protuberances, plus numerous other possible osteoderms, hornlets, and other abrasive surfaces. The image of a warthog stuck in my brain when I first saw photos of the skull, and stuck in my brain from thereafter.
