Trikeratos

Trikeratos, based on Triceratops skeleton.

Trikeratos, product of biology and technology. If someone asked me what it meant, I suppose I’d say, “a fanciful expression of how technology can illuminate details of the distant past.” Yes, that's what I'd say, assuming I can remember it. The skeleton for this piece is based on photos taken of the Triceratops mount at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History (I was attending SVP in 2008, and had the opportunity to take lots of photo reference).

Prints are available here.

2016 #Sciart Tweetstorm Day 4: Fossil (Reconstruction) Friday

Tonight's serving of #sciart - three reconstructions of some of my favorite fossil critters. First up, Helicoprion with her modern relative, the Galapagos ratfish. Second, an outdated reconstruction of Thallattosaurus from the side and top, after the original Merriam fossil sketch. Last, we have a troodon with corvid-esque feather patterns from a much larger piece I've been working on for the past couple of years.
